Hi all,
I'm 'review-ing' the third Death Note movie, L Change the World. I watched the 9:40 pm screening on 29th Feb 08 at GV.
KJ calls this movie "L world", which I will do as well, cos it shortens that long name (and the amount I have to type) for I'm a lazy person.
Spoiler alert : DO NOT read ahead if you have not watched the movie and DO NOT care for spoilers. I am not liable for any damage to your movie enjoyment. You have been warned. StorylineThe storyline was a little too draggy ie it plays more on your feelings than anything. But I still loved the special effects (gory scenes) and L. L was great as usual in this movie, and he is so
kawaii! I miss him and love him so much =X
(and you bad evil people, KJ, KJX, don't go announcing to the world hor)Gory scenesThere was quite a bit of blood, just enough to make me love them! Maki's dad literally got toasted in his own lab, and the effects were sooo good.. I only wish there were melting flesh special effects too, it would make my day. And all the virus-infected victims had bloody eyes, K even cried blood. Yum yums.
I wish I was L and acted those scenes cos I really want to be there and seeing all the fun and how they made the eyes bloody and all that.
Science stuffL world had some science stuff too, which is so cool, another plus point that made me love this movie. And the scenes in the rural science lab.. Was so nostalgic. I never thought I would miss a science lab so early in my life, but I do. All the pipettes, centrifuges, microscopes.. And L had a very good knowledge of medicines and their effects, I only wondered why he didn't do the research on the virus himself. He is way cleverer than that scientist for sure.
Some spoilers ahead (warning!!), because I want to record down exactly what I loved about this movie:[1] When L started typing (don't blame me, this is the first time I'd seen L type)
[2] When L threw the files all over the place after going through them
[3] Whe L burnt the Death Note (his trademark pinch-with-index-finger-and-thumb action)
[4] When Boy ran screaming from the examination room and scared L (L's eyes!! darting back and forth - really funny!!)
[5] When L started typing to K, wearing his funny mask - the one you saw in Death Note 2
[6] When L offered Maki sweets-on-a-stick and got refused (he SO looked like Robo here, it's so funny)
[7] When L proceeded to eat the sweets that Maki refused
[8] When L looked at both Maki and Boy crying and looking so bemused and a little taken-aback
[9] When L opened the doors to reveal the 'Angel Crepe' van (I was like
T.T then)
[10] When L said to the FBI guy: "Meet you here in two hours. Drive as fast as you want."
[11] When the FBI guy went mortified and suddenly realised he was a decoy
[12] When L used the FBI guy (Matsuda????) as a decoy while he went shopping
[13] When the scientist said the energy source of the virus was sugar, L looked abit taken-aback, and then proceeded eating the sugar cube he was about to pop into his mouth when the scientist made that statement
[14] When L and Near rushed to snatch food during the 'picnic'
[15] And then getting 'scolded' by Maki
[16] When L and Near put their hands together reluctantly so that they could start eating
[17] When Maki asked L to stand straight - and he tried
[18] When L hugged Maki on the plane and soothed her like a big bro/daddy
[19] When L christened Near at Wammy's house
[20] When L tried to stand straight (because he liked Maki and cos that was his last day alive) but reverted back almost immediately
[21] When L smiled (happily/sadly??) whilst leaving Wammy's house to walk towards the setting sun

All in all, had a relatively good birthday this year.
On Saturday (16th Feb), we went to 大舅's house to celebrate the Last Day of Chinese New Year, and also my birthday and Wen Wei's birthday. I had a Chocolate Banana mousse cake and Wen Wei had a pink cake. Lol. Little girls and pink.. I don't get it. Pink is my most hated colour in the world. And I never liked Barbie dolls even as a kid.
Anyways, we took loads of pics. And yea, I'm not gonna post it up yet, too lazy. Maybe one day I'll update this post.
Anyhows, I got some really nice stuff for my birthday. Besides ang pows, of course. Black stuff.
The yum necklace from xiao yi:
*Even though I am not Christian, but, heck, I still like cross designs

The yum jacket from IP zone:* jackets.. love them

Credits to jiro_no_jojo17 for the translations she did for us:
26) What kind of car do you want?
I don’t really need one. I wouldn’t want a big one. (something along those lines)
[big cars are scary - hard to park, and when i'm alone driving a big car along dark lanes after watching horror movies, my imagination might go into overdrive]27) What do you buy most often at the convenience store?
Probably water.28) What do you always have in your fridge?
Mayonnaise and sauces.29) What is the interior (of your home) like? (This question was worded weirdly, it literally translated “What is stuck to your interior?” This is the best I could come up with. Anyone else have any ideas?)
Mostly black and white.[hot. minimalist.... i'd do my house this way if i had my own. of course my colour theme would also include vivid red. red, white and black.]30) How many CDs do you own?
About 20. Mostly punk.31) Out of cooking, laundry, and cleaning, which do you prefer?
Cooking. [women's man indeed XD]32) What do you always carry in your bag?
A toothbrush and toothpaste. (Probably because he's a smoker lol. Wonder if he actually succeeded in quiting like he said he was trying to?)
33) What do you first order at a sushi bar?
Fermented soybean rolls, sea chicken rolls, and other rolls.34) Well then what do you order afterwards?
Hamachi (Yellowtail fish)36) Does being tall ever cause problems for you?
Sometimes when I’m not looking, I hit my head. (KAWAII SOU…..T.T)
[so funny... i still remember the sound this guy made when he whacked his head on the handholds attached to the ceiling of the bus... it was hilarious and i had to get off the bus to laugh. had a stitch after that.]37) Did you hit your head recently?
It’s always happening to me.[exactly like my bro - accident-prone]38) When are you most happy?
When I’m with someone I love. Not just a girlfriend but friends too.39) What did you do for New Year’s?
I played mahjong with friends40) Would you rather talk in your sleep or snore?
I do both anyways.[honest to the point of being funny. i can imagine Ken-san saying that with a deadpan voice and face.. and then bursting out in laughter. that's what i'd do at any rate]41) What’s your computer’s wallpaper?
The characters from Little Miss Sunshine.42) How many times do you check your mail each day?
On my phone, about twice.43) What sites do you go to most on your cell phone?
The weather site and train traffic (like what lines to take and what stations to change at).45) What do you think people say about your character? (This is the closest I could get to the translation from the kanji.)
Maybe that I’m selfish.46) What thing about yourself do you like the most?
I don’t have anything I like the most.47) Then what’s your least favorite thing about yourself?
When my hands get sweaty.48) What’s your favorite vegetable?
Lettuce49) What alcoholic beverage do you drink the most of?
Cheap liquor, Okinawan sake, wine。Beer and Japanese (alcoholic) drinks are bad.50) Do you think sake is strong?
It should be weaker. (Regular) sake makes you forget everything. (He literally said, “It makes your memory disappear.)
51) What’s your favorite food?
Sukiyaki52) What’s your least-favorite food?
Shirako

(神童)Shindo's a great movie. For Riko Narumi and Kenichi Matsuyama and music/piano fans. I happen to like all three so yea this makes a great movie for me.
Storyline:One 13-year-old piano prodigy, Uta Naruse (Riko Narumi), and her struggle with the meaning of playing classical music. Her father (Hidetoshi Nishijima) died mysteriously some years earlier, leaving her mother (Satomi Tezuka) poor and obsessed with making Uta fulfill her immense promise. But Uta is not sure if she even wants to play the piano. She gains a new perspective one day when she runs into Wao Kikuna (Kenichi Matsuyama) in a park. The piano-playing son of a greengrocer who is still trying to enter the music academy after several failures, Wao is six years her senior but far below her level of talent.Yet through his clumsy and misguided but earnest efforts to pursue music, Uta touches a more down-to-earth love of playing the piano. Wao, although a bit envious of Uta's genius, is sparked by her presence to have his own moments of brilliance. The show starts off with how Uta met Wao in the park. It's so cute, exactly how my bro would look if this were to happen to him. But of course, my bro wouldn't be cute. Only Ken (and perhaps Leslie) would be cute in this kind of situation.
And then, one day as Uta was going home from school, she heard piano sounds from the room above a grocer's store.. And she goes there to listen, and she saw Wao come out to scold his neighbour who keeps complaining about his over-earnest-yet-far-from-perfect piano playing.
Uta rushes into the house in the ensuing mayhem to play the piano.. And everyone gets enchanted by her playing, including Wao. This builds up to form the amazing friendship between Uta and Wao. One amusing part was when Wao went for his piano audition. Surprised by the favourite toy of Uta's that she had placed in his bag to encourage him, he took the toy out and set it on the audition piano - he plays so earnestly that he topped the audition. Thanks to his own hard work and Uta's encouragement.
Lovely show overall, but some parts were kind of farfetched and hard to believe, especially the part where Litchen-something (a famous pianist) enlisted Uta's help to play in his stead when he didn't feel well. Uta learned the whole score within that few minutes, memorised the whole score (an entire book of at least 10 pages), coordinates well with the entire orchestra....
and sits on the piano score throughout the whole performance. @.@ That part was unreal. Even the best pianists and best talents would have to look at the book for the first time performing an entire recital!
Uta = Song
Wao = Sound
I really want this movie. Wao is sooooo cute!! Uta too! I first saw her in 1LoT, she was Ako in there, and she's really really really pretty! She's only 15 though. And she gets to kiss Wao.. So cheeky!

I hate my maid and I hate my mum's nagging. I hate Chinese New Year. Spring clean, my head!! Every bit of thing I can't pack, I'm dumping them in one of my bags. They'll be out again after the Chinese New Year. OMG. WTF man. CNY. An excuse to buy new clothes that I don't like, an excuse to make me pack my room, an excuse not to let me do what I want, an excuse to go visiting friends whom I don't know at all. I hate meeting people I don't know. I hate facades. Everyone's wearing them on CNY. People whom I know don't like me act like they do, and I have to be civil to them, sit there, listen to them talk, occasionally referring back to me as if I'm nothing but an Object like Harry Potter in Divination.
It's 1.30+pm already, I woke up at 12 today, I wanted to go to the park to blade, I wanted to watch Shindo, now I have to pack my room, and we're going out dinner later tonight. Where is my time to do all these???!! And tomorrow is the weekend. No more movies. AHHHHHHHHHHHH. It's after exams and omgggggggggggggggggggggggg I can't enjoy myself fully. F lah.
Past two nights I watched Shibuya Kaidan, didnt watch movies in the day, cos I had other stuff to do like watch and help gan ma pack her storeroom, fetch baby from childcare, go to NTUC for groceries, go out with wifey.... Gah. I know I sound like a spoilt brat, but my days haven't been going well for me. I had everything nicely planned out and then people have to come and tell me to do things I don't want to.
I want to watch Shindo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crap. I think I'm not going blading after all. I'll watch Shindo. Plenty of time to go blading over the weekend. Whereas I won't be able to watch Shindo over the weekend.
Ah. Shibuya Kaidan. Warning: This is a horror movie. I kept turning cold especially at Part2, and sometimes I could feel my heart stop at certain bits. It also helped that periodically, mum would yell at me or tap me really hard on my arm or shoulder. Overall the effects were good though I didn't like the plot. Japanese horror movies always are good, they are scary no matter how stupid the plot may be. I used to like HK horror too, now I still do, but I prefer Japanese ones. I think Thai horror should be good too, I watched one, Shutter. And I liked the ghost. Western horror movies don't make the cut unless they are focussed on gore (SAW).
Thank you wifey for the L chirashi!! Hontoni daisuki desu!
